Finding Peace in Destin: A Three-Day Reminder That Life Can Be Beautiful

Sometimes the best trips are the ones you don’t overplan.
Matthew and I packed our bags and headed to Florida’s Emerald Coast for a three-day getaway. We wanted a change of scenery, a little adventure, and an opportunity to simply enjoy life together.
One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Alys Beach. The white architecture, palm-lined pathways, and peaceful atmosphere felt like stepping into another world. Every corner seemed to invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, and appreciate the beauty around you.
As I walked through the town in my olive-green dress and bright red heels, I found myself reflecting on life. There was a time when I was simply trying to survive.
Working hard. Raising my son. Rebuilding after disappointment. Trusting God even when I couldn’t see the entire path ahead. Yet here I was, standing in one of the most beautiful places I had ever visited, completely at peace.
The next morning, I woke up early, visited the gym, and took a walk around Grand Boulevard. The quiet morning air gave me space to reflect on how much life has changed. As I looked around, I realized this life is more beautiful than I ever imagined. Not because of material things. Not because of accomplishments. Not because of titles. But because of peace. Peace in my heart. Peace in my home. Peace in the direction God has led me.
This trip reminded me that success is not measured by what we own. Success is being able to wake up grateful. Success is feeling aligned with your purpose. Success is recognizing God’s hand in your journey and appreciating how far He has brought you. As I stood among the beautiful white columns of Alys Beach, I was reminded of something I often tell others: The journey may not have been easy. But it wasn’t for nothing.
And for that, I am deeply grateful.
